Why are you here?

  • You are here to demonstrate, expand upon, and consider your collective multiliteracies.
  • You are here to engage in a "during reading" and "post reading" exercise.
  • You are here to collectively make sense and meaning out of The New London Group's A pedagogy of multiliteracies: Designing social futures.

How will you accomplish these three goals?

  • You will electronically annotate, insert links, and embed information into A pedagogy of multiliteracies: Designing social futures. Do This For Homework.
    • Click on "A pedagogy of Multiliteracies" found in the sidebar to access the article.
  • You will create and edit pages in this wiki that provide information on multiliteracies, the authors, reactions to this text, multiliteracy practices in classrooms, critiques, questions, etc. Do this in class on Monday.
    • Click on "Pages and Files" on the sidebar. Then click "new page" to create a new page.
  • You will ask tier I and tier II questions as well as higher order questions. You will help your peers by answering their questions. Do this for homework and in class.
    • See the "comprehension questions" page and the "discussion questions page."
  • You will complete an "exit ticket" by Midnight on Wednesday,February 27th. Do this as homework.
    • Click on "Exit Ticket" found in the sidebar for further instructions.

Rules and Expectations.

  • There is only one unbreakable rule. You may not alter the original text of A pedagogy of multiliteracies in any way. This is a published document. Leave it be! You may insert comments, questions, links, videos, images, sound files, etc., into the text, but make sure it is very obvious where the original text begins and ends. For example, use a different color font if you feel the need to insert text directly into the document.
  • You will work on this assignment in preparation for class and for a significant portion of class on Monday, February 25th. My expectations are that you engage fully with the assignment for homework and in class. Although I expect everyone to make constructive edits and additions to the wiki, full engagement does not simply mean making lots and lots of edits! The goal here is to collectively work with a very challenging piece of academic text. When you make an edit, insert a link, add a sticky note, etc. ask yourself how that change helps both you and your peers. Also consider spacing your comments and edits throughout the document. It will not be helpful if the first five pages are filled with notations, but nothing is added to the last five pages.
  • One stupid feature with Wikispaces is that it does not do a good job allowing for multiple edits (by multiple members) at the same time. Basically, if you all wait until two hours before class or Sunday evening to interact with the site, you may run into some problems. Best way to avoid this is to not wait until the last second to do your homework! Since all of your edits will be timestamped, I'll know who is working and when...creepy huh?



Never used a wiki before? You don’t need a lot of technical expertise to get started. Page names for this Wiki are located on the right side of the screen. Click a link and you will go to the appropriate page. Want to make an edit? Click the “Edit” tab in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Now you are in word-processing mode - you can even cut and paste from a word file. Hit “Save” and your contribution will be added. The insert link and comments feature will be very helpful as you mark up the text. These are both pretty self explanatory, but if you need help scroll over the (sad monkey?) face in the upper right hand corner to access the help menu. There are plenty of other features and widgets that are better explained on forums or in Youtube videos. Just use Google to search for help with these features.
